And now that some time has passed We're seeing the new series's reception and it's...clear that some are more popular than others. Tenshou takes a mighty tumble along with Daiku no Hatou, while Meteor Girl, K.O.I and Evans are riding high. Meanwhile Souboutei is super low again but that's really not anything to be concerned with as it's Fujita and sells pretty well so it won't be shoved out until he's good and ready.  The first volumes for these series aren't out yet so they could possibly be be saved by the sales numbers, but this is not a good sign.

As mentioned in the last blogpost, Sunday is having a "Summer festival", and as I surmised, this does involve new series! Though in the case of the above, it's a certain series's return...Gin no Saji or Silver Spoon! by the very famous Hiromu Arakawa! That's right, we'll have land and sea covered when it comes to slice of life series in Sunday starting in issue 32! --Or next week! But of course I'll be covering the return of this fan favorite --apparently the two above are a couple now! But will their first white christmas together pan out?? (Is what is written on the flier.) Not pictured but just as important is Saike Matashitemo will return with his tenth part in the very same issue! WSS 32 is going to be one not to be missed, and Amazon Japan willing, I won't miss it!

In Issue 33 We'll have a new series beginning --Shinobino, by Rokuro Ogaki! The flier states it's the apperance of the oldest protagonist in Shounen Sunday history! IN fact the blurb even goes as far as saying that "He'll show just how cool adults can be." --Wow, that's some confidence. Apparently the guy there is 58 years old?! Man, I have to admit amongst all the cute girls doing cute things in WSS right now, he's gonna stand out for sure. Though I've been hoping for a new action series so I Hope this delivers! Beyond that, issue 34 will feature not one, not two but three oneshots by rookies!

The first is Senobi no Arisa-chan (Arisa-chan on Tiptoe) by Atsumi Takeru (Who we saw before with Idiot and Genius a few issues back,) The second is 150 kg no Kanojo (150 kg Girlfriend) by Koharu inoue, and the last is Ami-chan wa Wararuwanai (Ami-chan doesn't laugh) by Fumitaka Torisu. Other than Takeru I don't know much about these authors, but Inoue has a twitter that she frequents with drawings quite often here. (Actually someone has suggested I gather up all the WSS authors with twitters for a post...maybe I will soon.) Inoue was also an assistent for the popular Jinmen which I did a write up on before as well!

And then in issue 35 the legend himself graces the pages of the weekly magazine once more --Mitsuru Adachi! He's currently drawing a series in Gessan named MIX, but I guess he's willing to come back and show these newbies why he is a name to be remembered! There's no name mentioned for the one shot, nor is there a description, but I'm sure that info will come in due time.

There's a lot to come for Sunday in the next few weeks and I'm really excited! Are you? You should be! Anyway until Wednesday, have a good Sunday!

Comments

  1. Why is Tenshou so low? I mean it has dragons and Oda Nobunaga, that great, isn't it? Okay, the main characters are not that interesting. Maybe we should leave the boys behind and follow Oda on his journey instead.

My favourite characters in manga and anime are often the adults and not the teenaged main character. I think I'm getting old. Shinobino looks like it's going to be just the right thing for me. An older main character, set in the past and ninja action!

    1. First, thanks for commenting! Yeah, the boys in and of themselves aren't that interesting, plus it just feels like in general WSS is just not the place for action series. I'd love to be proven wrong, but seems all the biggest hits have been the slice of life genre...though Daiku no Hatou is also pretty low so maybe it's something else...

And yeah, Shinobino seems like it's gonna be the breath of fresh air needed in the magazine. Hope it sticks around!

  2. Shinobino will be epic. Love it just from the preview pic alone.

    1. The art is pretty awesome and just pops out of the page. Now what I wonder is if the story will match? I hope so --but we don't get much out of that blurb.

      As always, thanks for commenting!
