Weekly Shounen Sunday #20 (Preview)

Ahhh, I figured there'd come a time where I'd have to blog out of sadness, but I thought at least it'd be a year or two from now. Still, the Sunday must go on. Here we go with this weeks (admittedly small) preview.  More info might be forthcoming, so watch this spot for updates.

Conan's Movie is sneaking up on us like the shadowmen in the series, and to commemorate this, it gets two covers straight, which is clearly implied by this cliffhanger like thing going on here. Yes, Aoyama somehow managed to make the cover a cliffhanger. That takes pretty big balls. Also on top is a bumper advertising Hayate's finale, the 2nd of several new seires, and the return of Major 2nd.

And not in the issue this week are...

Be Blues by Motoyuki Tanaka
RYOKO by Kaito Mitsuhashi

Ah, that was a ton of work, so I think I'll just be doing Japanese names for now on, lol. Though it is with a heavy heart that I have to report this information...

So the reason RYOKO is absent this week, and was last week is because well...it's officially on hiatus. I'll TL this word for word.

"We are deeply thankful for you readers of "RYOKO". At this time Mr. Mitsuhashi's health has deteriorated to a point where drawing/writing the scripts is difficult. So for that reason, the series will take a hiatus from serialization for the time being. When the time comes where reserialization can continue uninterrupted, we will once again print a notification."

"As for the 2nd volume that was originally going to go on sale April 18th, this will be postponed as well."

"We are deeply sorry to the readers for this, but we hope that you'll understand and continue to enjoy the magazine. ---Shounen Sunday Editorial Department."

So yeah, Ryoko is basically on hiatus for...a while. I want to be optimistic that it won't be too long, but the fact that there isn't a date attached to this notice means that they're not even sure when Mitsuhashi will be up to drawing it again. I really hope he's okay, and that he can resume soon as the series was just hitting it's stride, as Fukuchi can tell him what happens when a series is away too long.

I don't have a picture of the preview, but I do know that Conan will be on the cover again, we'll have another new series in "The 9th wave (Daiku no Hatou) by Michteru Kusaba, and color pages for Megumi and Magi. Oh, and Zettai Karen Children will also be on Hiatus starting with #21, but at least for that, Shiina has said he intends on continuing the series in the summer. I hope the new series can pick up the slack that the ones going on hiatus and ending are leaving...
